In order to seek new measures to protect plants against diseases, alternative agriculture through the use of medicinal plants has been much studied. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of rosemary extract, cloves, cinnamon, garlic and guaco, under different sterilization methods (water bath at 65 ºC for 1 hour, water bath at 85 ºC for 1 hour; Autoclaving at 110 ° C for 20 minutes and autoclaving at 120 ° C for 20 minutes) in the mycelial growth of M. phaseolina. The AACCM was found for each form of sterilization in the extracts used. The extracts of rosemary, garlic and clove have an antifungal potential against M. phaseolina verified for the method of sterilization autoclaving at 120 ºC for 20 minutes, water bath at 65 ºC and 85 ºC for...

Biological control of Mycosphaerella fragariae in strawberry culture Sci. Agrar.Paran. / SAP
Heling, Anderson Luis; Kuhn, Odair José; Stangarlin, José Renato.
The Mycosphaerella spot is one of the main foliar diseases of strawberry, degrating great leaf regions and reducing the photosynthetic area. Its control is mainly by the use of chemical fungicides, but, due the increasing demand for food free of pesticide, alternative control methods have been researched, such as biological control. This work aimed to evaluate the effect on strawberry plants, treated with the biological control agents Bacillus cereus, Saccharomyces boulardii and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, in the severity of Mycosphaerella fragariae, productivity and in the activity of β-1.3 glucanases, peroxidases and chitinases enzymes. It was verified that S. cerevisiae and B. cereus treatments were similar to fungicide for disease control. However, even...

The continuous use of pesticides protecting plants from diseases can result in several damages due the environmental pollution and food residues. Thus, it is necessary the search for new plant diseases control technology. The objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro antimicrobial activity against Alternaria solani and Xanthomonas vesicatoria and the control of early blight and bacterial spot on tomato plants, using stable formulation, as soluble powder, from Pycnoporus sanguineus. To determine the shelf life, the soluble powder was kept at 40 oC during 0, 60, 120 and 180 days and assayed with five concentrations (0, 50, 100, 150 and 200 mg L-1). When the shelf life and the best concentrations were defined, it was evaluated the time-interval of...

- Female root-knot nematode can present compounds able to activate defense mechanisms in the vegetable. With this end, the chromatographic technique is based on the purification of molecules such as proteins, glycoproteins, nucleic acids and polysaccharides, which may present eliciting characteristics. The aim of this paper was to determine the elicitors purification methodology, from phytopathogenic nematodes, by gel filtration chromatography (GFC). Nematodes females of Meloidogyne incognita and Meloidogyne javanica were extracted, macerated, and subsequently subjected to gel filtration chromatography. For the M. incognita five protein peaks and seven glucosidic peaks, with molecular masses ranging from 8.80 to 285.95 KDa and from 65.09 to 7.47 µg glucose...

Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, the causal agent of white mold, is a polyphagous pathogen with a large number of plant hosts, and that can survival for many years in the soil. Alternative methods are necessary to its control, such as homeopathy. This work aimed to verify the antimicrobial activity of homeopathic drugs against S. sclerotiorum. The coffee plant can grow together with different plants, but the presence of allelochemicals can affect the crop post-planting. This study aimed to evaluate the early growth of coffee seedlings following treatment with plant extracts from different botanical families. The experimental design used randomized blocks with four trials, in a 7 × 2 factorial scheme; the first factor consisted of aqueous extracts from six species: canola, crotalaria, brachiaria, sunflower, wheat, and lupine; water was used as the control. The second factor comprised of different botanical parts of the aforementioned six species of plant. The extracts were diluted to 5% concentration and were applied at a dose of 20 mL per plant. The agronomic variables analyzed were plant height...

Charcoal Rot is a disease that occurs in a large number of plant species and besides not being economically controlled by fungicides no genetic resistance has been found. Associated with this controlling problem, there is also a growing awareness of the proper handling of pesticides or of the search for new and environmentally safer technologies for handling of plant diseases. Therefore this study aimed to examine in vitro the potential of different isolates of Trichoderma sp for biological control of Macrophomina phaseolina. Seventeen different isolates of Trichoderma sp. were used, in two different tests: direct confrontation with the pathogen and production of volatile compounds by the antagonist. In the experimental conditions the different isolates of...

The basil, Ocimum basilicum, is a shrubby plant used for medicinal and culinary purposes because of its antibiotic properties and aroma. The basil consumption has increased due to demand for healthier foods and interest in Mediterranean cuisine, in order to increase the demand and consequently the production. With its intensive cultivation, has increased the incidence and severity of disease in culture, in particular fungal diseases. One of this disease is anthracnose, caused by the pathogen Colletotrichum gloeosporioides L., that affects the aerial part of the plant and has caused major economic damage to the crop. Aiming to assess the importance of seeds as a source of inoculum of anthracnose in the culture of basil were made test of seed pathology in...

In the scenario of renewable energy, Brazil has an important role, especially the biodiesel production chain that is growing, but its feasibility depends on the source material still adequate. An alternative source material is the crambe (Crambe abyssinica Hochst), but little is known about this culture. Thus was determined the survey of the diseases that may limit production in western Paraná. The disease survey was conducted by the sanity of two fonts of seeds and the field survey of diseased plants. In the two fonts of seed were evaluated incidence of fungi and bacteria, and in the commercial seed, bacteria were predominant in 20% of the seeds, and in seed obtained directly from the producer, there was highest incidence of fungi, predominantly...

This study evaluated the effect of thermal shock, combined with calcium in the microbiological and biochemical response of tomatoes stored under refrigeration. Heat shock treatments (45 ° C for 12 minutes under water) combined with calcium (CaCl 2) were applied to tomatoes. After treatments, fruits were stored at 5 ° C for 10 days, with subsequent storage at 20 ° C for 10 days. The activity of peroxidase (PO), the contents of β-carotene, lycopene, phenolics and ascorbic acid and also the incidence of pathogens were evaluated. The results showed no effect of heat shock and its combination with Ca on the activities of PO and the ascorbic acid content of tomatoes submitted to cold stress.
